Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a CWP class take ?

Plan on appx 8 hrs. There is a written test and shooting proficiency test. Classroom first then shooting exam. This class is really meant for those who have experience with a handgun. If you are a complete novice, I would recommend the NRA Basic Pistol class first. It's worth the money and time.

What will I learn ?

A lot about gun safety. You will learn how to properly clean your firearm, how to be accurate, proper breathing and grip, sight alignment, trigger squeeze, and a lot more. You will also learn how to stay out of trouble with your firearm. Navigating the waters of self defense can be tricky.

What do I need to bring ?

NO RED DOT OR LASER SIGHTS CAN BE USED HERE ! Bring a pen, a notebook, your drivers license, your handgun(must be in good working order), appx 100 rounds of ammo(factory new only), and lunch/drinks. Bring an outside the waistband holster and good belt. You can take your class with a .22 caliber, but I recommend at least a .380 caliber. Dress for the weather. Bring hearing protection, a hat, and safety glasses. Eyeglasses are fine. However, no flip flops, shorts, or low cut shirts. Be sure to bring the class fee.

How long does it take to get the actual permit ?

Per SLED, appx 4 weeks by using the Identogo process.

What about the advanced classes ?

These classes require the student to be able to handle their firearms efficiently. Load, reload, and clear any malfunctions on your own are some examples of skills you will need. You will need to have successfully completed either the NRA Basic Pistol class or have a valid SC CWP. These are not for beginners.

What about the tune up class ?

This class is an advanced class and  primarily addresses accuracy issues. Students will need to have successfully completed either the NRA Basic Pistol class or have a valid SC CWP. This is a 1 hour only session and is a review of how to be accurate with your handgun. Bring 100 rounds of factory new ammo and a handgun that is in good working condition.
